Futuro en Ag in Action in 2023

Congratulations to the Class of 2023 Futuro en Ag Graduates

This January to March at the Cornell Small Farms Program’s Futuro en Ag project, we conducted 3 Leadership Development and Farm Business Management courses. Two were held on Long Island – one in Spanish and the other in English – and the third in Western New York. A total of 46 New York ag sector leaders completed the course with the support of their workplaces. In addition, in February, 25 new and aspiring Latino/a/x farmers completed the six-week online course in Spanish, “Cómo Iniciar su Negocio Agrícola” (Starting Your Farm Business).

From May to August 2023, we’ll be starting a new cycle of “Juntos Aprendemos” (Together We Learn) peer learning circles. Together We Learn meets online once a month to learn from our community of experienced practitioners about topics such as entrepreneurship, personnel management, and farm business development. If you’re interested in taking part, please contact Tim Shenk or Mildred Alvarado as soon as possible for more information.

Over the summer we’ll be organizing Farm Field Days around New York State to learn from Latino farm families, successful farm employees and graduates of Futuro en Ag courses. We’ll learn about production, marketing, personnel management, and other important parts of running successful businesses and strengthening communities. If you’re interested in hosting a field day on your farm, please contact Tim Shenk or Mildred Alvarado as soon as possible.

Many thanks to all of our partners, producers, volunteers, farm owners, facilitators and co-facilitators for making possible all of the activities we’ve described above!
