Spanish-language Resource Center for Farmers is growing trove of knowledge
Is Spanish your first language? Have you dreamed of raising chickens or sheep, or having your own commercial vegetable or small fruit production? Would you like to find land or secure financing to start a farm business?
The Cornell Small Farms Program’s Futuro en Ag team invites you to learn about new materials available for use by the Spanish-speaking farming community in its Centro de Recursos para Agricultores. This year, the team has added the following resources:
- Resources for Agricultural Production, which includes extensive written and video materials on blueberry production and raising poultry and sheep;
- Resources for Farmland Acquisition, which includes a Spanish-language tool that connects land seekers with those selling or leasing farmland;
- Farm Business Management and Financing, which includes documents and tutorials to learn about loans, grants, taxes, insurance and record keeping to increase farm business viability.
In addition, through the Resource Center interested parties can sign up for the free, self-guided course, “Planifique su Negocio Agrícola” and learn more about other introductory online courses in Spanish. The Centro de Recursos para Agricultores is being developed in collaboration with Latino/a/x producers in the U.S. Northeast, responding to the need for agriculture-related educational materials in Spanish.Informed and educated farmers are empowered to build strong communities that improve food systems for all.
