Nuestros valores, nuestros sueños, el legado de nuestros padres, la experiencia en agricultura que traemos de nuestros países de origen, nuestra identidad es lo que en algún momento nos ha hecho pensar, quisiera tener mi propio negocio agrícola aquí en EUA; pero ¿cómo hago para comenzar? Este curso le ayudará a analizar de una forma organizada los diferentes pasos y decisiones a considerar que debe tener en cuenta para que haga de su sueño una realidad y que el proceso sea menos riesgoso.
Cuando estaba pequeña mi papá siempre decía, quisiera tener mi propia tierra. Con ese objetivo en mente el comenzó a ahorrar y compró tres hectáreas de terreno, lo trabajó y lo hizo producir, poco a poco él fue comprando más tierra hasta tener lo suficiente para dedicarse a tiempo completo a su emprendimiento agrícola. Fue este emprendimiento, el amor por el cuidado de la tierra y por la agricultura la que le permitió a mi papá y a mi mamá darles oportunidades a sus hijos. Nosotros ayudábamos a producir para la familia y a comercializar parte de lo cosechado. Esto nos dio independencia, nos mostró un camino de sueños y nos hizo alcanzar metas como familia, y llegar donde ahora estamos.
Ahora que vivo y trabajo en NY, he tenido la oportunidad de conversar con muchas personas de origen hispano, y que hablamos español como primera lengua. He sido testigo que somos una comunidad trabajadora, honesta, apasionada por lo que hacemos, muchos de nosotros ya están produciendo, otros aspiramos a convertirnos en productores, algunos somos empleados agrícolas, otros somos miembros de la comunidad y trabajamos en diferentes sectores, y es entonces cuando repetidamente vuelvo a escuchar el sueño de mi papá que también es el sueño de muchos de nosotros aquí, tener nuestro propio negocio agrícola, producir y generar ingresos con los frutos de la tierra para nuestra familia aquí en EUA, y la pregunta es ¿Cómo podemos comenzar?
Curso en línea en español; ¿Cómo iniciar su Negocio Agrícola?
Del 12 de enero hasta el 16 de febrero del 2023, los jueves de 6:30 pm a 8 pm hora del Este
El Programa de Small Farms de la Universidad de Cornell ha diseñado para usted el curso en español; ¿Cómo Iniciar su Negocio Agrícola? El cual le ayudará a poner en marcha sus objetivos. Parte del curso ocurre en su propio tiempo, con discusiones, lecturas y tareas aquí en su aula virtual llamada Teachable y se complementa con los seminarios virtuales en vivo, que serán parte del curso durante 6 semanas para permitirle reunirse semanalmente y aprender de las experiencias de mujeres y hombres Latinos que ya tiene su negocio agrícola establecido en diferentes Estados y que aman hacer agricultura, encontrando en esta el estilo de vida que responde a sus valores, metas, habilidad y recursos. ¡Con este curso USTED podrá aprender en su propio idioma y con la Comunidad Latina sobre cómo iniciar un negocio agrícola y continuar con nuestro legado y nuestra historia en la Agricultura!
Our Legacy, Our Values, Our Love for the Land
Our values, our identities, our dreams, our family legacy, the experience we bring from our home countries. At some point many of us have thought: “I’d love to have my own farm business in the United States. But how do I get started?” This course will help participants analyze the many steps and decisions they will have to consider to minimize risk and make their dreams a reality.
When I was a little girl, my dad always said he wanted to have his own land. With that goal in mind, he started saving and bought his first seven acres in Honduras. He started a small farm, and little by little he was able to buy enough land to dedicate himself full time to agricultural work. It was this work — the love and care for the land and farming — that allowed my parents to give opportunities to their children. We all helped in producing food for the family and selling part of what we grew. This gave us independence, showed us how to pursue our dreams, and got us where we are today.
Now I live and work in New York State, and I talk with many Latinos who speak Spanish as their first language. We are hard-working, honest, and passionate about what we do. Many of us are already farmers, aspiring farmers, or farm employees. Others are members of the community and work in different sectors. Over and over, I hear my father’s dream repeated: to work the land, run a farm business, and support our families here in the U.S. The question is, how do you begin?
Online Course in Spanish: ¿Cómo Iniciar su Negocio Agrícola?
(Starting Your Own Farm Business)
January 12 to February 16, 2023, Thursdays, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET
The Cornell Small Farms Program is launching a new online course fully in Spanish, ¿Cómo Iniciar su Negocio Agrícola? to help people jump start their dreams. Part of the course is self-directed, with readings, assignments, and discussion topics in Teachable, our virtual classroom. This work is complemented by six live webinars. In the 90-minute webinars, participants will learn from Latinas and Latinos who have established farm businesses in different states. These farmers love what they do and have created a lifestyle that aligns with their values, goals, skills, and resources. In this course, participants will learn with a Spanish-language learning community about starting a farm business and continuing our agricultural legacy!
