Windbreaks are plantings of trees and/or shrubs that reduce wind speed in an agricultural area. First used widely after the Dust Bowl, they can have many benefits, such as:
- Reducing energy costs around farm buildings
- Reducing wind stress on crops and livestock
- Generating new crops for harvest
- Providing wildlife habitat
