New Resources Available for Specialty Mushroom Growers

We are excited to announce the release of a new Harvest to Market Guide for producers interested in growing specialty mushrooms. This resource is the product of a cooperative effort conducted by the Cornell Small Farms Program, Cornell Cooperative Extension, consultant growers, and other supporting organizations.

This guidebook is meant to serve as a companion to our production guidebooks, videos, and other materials produced by our Speciality Mushroom project.

While previous guidebooks focus on the technical aspects of successful mushroom cultivation in different scenarios, this publication offers information to support post-harvest handling, sales, business planning, and decision making that is critical to developing a viable small enterprise.

The guide is broken up into two main sections and follows a logical order:

  1. The Production Chain: From Harvest to Market
  2. Enterprise Planning (Budgeting, Cash Flow, Legal considerations, etc)

The Harvest to Market Guide can be accessed as an interactive web page or downloaded for free as a PDF. We are excited to provide this guide for specialty mushroom producers, and wish you all the best with your enterprises

This guidebook is possible because of support from the USDA Specialty Crop Grant Program , New York Farm Viability Institute, and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
