Learning from our Farmer Neighbors: Raising Pigs & Broilers
Join us for a farm field day to explore how farmers can build viable operations through small-scale pasture-raised broiler and pig production. Themes will include income diversification, starting a farm business from scratch, and collaboration among farmers.
We’ll hear from Devon Van Noble of Van Noble Farm and José Luis Aguilera of Four Leaf Farm, two farmers and entrepreneurs who have developed their business model based on building support networks to diversify their income streams and grow sustainably.
Farm field day: 4-6 p.m.
Supper: 6-7 p.m.
The farm tour will showcase their small livestock operations. Devon will share lessons from raising pigs on pasture and from launching a successful catering business based on local meat. José Luis will share his journey getting started as a farmer raising broilers (chickens raised for meat), an example of how to start and grow a farm business with limited land and capital.
Questions and farmer-to-farmer dialogue are encouraged.
Menu: Local smoked pork and chicken raised at the host farm; vegetarian sides.
Event and supper are free of charge to registered participants. Participation is limited, so register now!
Simultaneous English-Spanish interpretation provided.
