Veteran Scholarship: Online Course
This scholarship supports the enrollment of veterans into a Cornell Small Farms Program’s online course. Veterans may receive one scholarship per course season, which runs from September to March each year.
Terms and Conditions
Eligibility. Scholarship recipients must be U.S. military veterans, which may include those currently serving, and must reside in New York. This scholarship is non-transferable to non-veteran family members.
Overview. This scholarship supports a veteran's enrollment into a single Cornell Small Farms Program’s online course. Veterans may receive only one scholarship per course season, which runs from September to March. Scholarships may fund a portion or all of the enrollment costs.
Application Windows
Block 1 (Sep-Oct Courses): August 21, 2025 – September 9, 2025
Block 2 (Nov-Dec Courses): September 11, 2025 – October 21, 2025
Block 3 (Jan-Feb Courses): October 22, 2025 – December 9, 2025
Block 4 (Feb-Apr Courses): December 10, 2025 – February 10, 2026
Self-Paced Courses: August 21, 2025 – July 31, 2026
When Applying. Applications containing partial or inaccurate contact information will not be considered. Veterans should clearly articulate how the course will benefit and further their agricultural pursuits and/or strengthen their current farm production operations and/or farm business strategies.
Scholarship Approvals. Applicants will be notified within 5 business days of the application deadline. If your application is denied, this will provide you time to enroll in the course on your own.
Scholarship Recipient Responsibilities.
- Veterans will enroll into the course for which they applied by the start date of the course. Veterans who fail to do so will forfeit their scholarship.
- Veteran enrollees are expected to actively participate in Zoom sessions and on the Teachable platform, as required by course instructors. We cannot require this, but we do encourage it as it provides opportunity to engage with the instructor and others taking the course.
- Veterans are expected to make weekly progress in the course. Farm Ops staff will be checking in with veterans that are not progressing through the course. Failure to start the course and make reasonable progress throughout the course may result in forfeiture of the scholarship and disenrollment.
- Veterans are expected to complete the course within 1 month of the end of course date. Failure to do so will impact consideration for future scholarships.
- Veterans will fulfill the requirements for the Course Completion Certificate. Failure to do so will impact consideration for future scholarships.
- Veterans will complete post course interview and/or survey with Farm Ops staff to assess course and evaluate effectiveness of learning objectives.
Application Process
Step 1. You must know for which course you want to apply. Review the Cornell Small Farms online course offerings.
Step 2. Apply for a scholarship for a course of your choice by the application deadline schedule mentioned above.
Step 3. Receive application approval/disapproval. You will be notified if your application has been accepted within 5 business days of the application deadline. Acceptance letters will provide instructions on the enrollment process.
Receive Farm Ops Emails
The Farm Ops SITREP is a monthly email digest built for farmer veterans. Emails will share upcoming events and training/educational opportunities, external news, curated agricultural articles, stories about fellow farmer veterans across New York State, and more.
