Farm Op Offers Tree Fruit Production Field Day for Veteran Cohort

Event: Tree Fruit Production Field Day

Where: Geneva, NY

When: Friday, March 15th / 10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Description: Cornell Small Farms Farm Ops and CCE ENYCHP are hosting a Field Day for beginners interested in starting or improving an existing orchard. We will first meet with veteran, Joe Nicholson, at Red Jacket Orchards to learn about his business, and to learn about basic tree horticulture tasks, such as fruit varieties, training, and pruning. We will then have lunch at AgriTech in Geneva and will then spend the afternoon learning about orchard pest management with Anna Wallis and Janet van Zoeren. Attendees will be provided take home resources and two fruit trees from Red Jacket’s tree nursery.

 

Nina Saeli

Nina retired from active duty in 2009. She and her husband, Jeffrey, own and operate Centurion Farm in Locke, NY. Nina also now works with the Cornell Small Farms Program as coordinator of our Farm Ops project supporting veterans in agriculture.
