COVID-19 Update on NYS Phased Vaccination Plan

This week New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the latest prioritization for New Yorkers eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The state is currently in Phase 1a.

“While we’re trying to control COVID with one hand, we’re trying to defeat it with the other and the vaccine is the weapon that will win this war,” Governor Cuomo said in a press release. “Getting this vaccine out is going to be the single greatest operation government has ever had to accomplish and we’re taking bold actions to ensure it is delivered swiftly and equitably for all New Yorkers.”

When NYS enters Phase 1b, “food and agricultural essential workers” will be designated to receive the vaccine under the Centers for Disease Control’s guidelines. As soon as the Governor announces the beginning of Phase 1b, we will provide an update and any additional information.

In preparation for vaccine distribution, NYS has also launched a new “Am I Eligible” app to help New Yorkers determine their eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine, connect them with administration centers, and schedule appointments. As we are still in Phase 1a, this eligibility app is not applicable to essential workers in the other phases at this time.

COVID-19 is still a threat to our state so please continue to follow the necessary steps to “Stop the Spread” and remain diligent.
