NY Soil Health Field Day: Biochar, Compost and Building Climate Resiliency
Hosted by CCE Suffolk Agricultural Stewardship Program and CCE Suffolk Vegetable/Potato Program in coordination with Cornell Small Farms and NY Soil Health This soil health field day will include discussions and demonstrations of research on various soil amendments including biochar and compost in nursery, vegetable, and vineyard production systems. We will discuss how these soil amendments can improve soil properties and build climate resiliency on farms. Summer cover crops will also be discussed.
A dialogue group will be hosted the following day, attendees at the field day are invited to participate in a dialogue group from 6:15 pm -7:30 pm at LIHREC following the Soil Health Field Day. We will be providing stipends of $40 per participant, and responses will remain confidential. Refreshments served!
The Rich Earth Institute, based in Brattleboro, Vermont, in partnership with Cornell University and Cornell Cooperative Extension, are interested in better understanding the perspectives of a range of farmers, agricultural advisors and other land managers about the use of novel soil amendments – including human urine, biochar made from biosolids, and biochar made from other biomass such as wood pellets.
