Farm Ops Scholarship: Learning About Livestock Guardian Dogs

Two farmer veterans recently attended a hands-on workshop at Empty Pockets Ranch to explore the benefits and challenges of using livestock guardian dogs (LGD) on their farms. Led by veteran spouse Lori Davis, the session provided an in-depth look at whether an LGD is the right choice for protecting livestock, covering topics such as breed characteristics, training techniques, potential issues, and basic care requirements.

The event offered veterans a chance to gain practical knowledge and firsthand experience in working with LGDs, helping them make informed decisions about incorporating these working dogs into their own agricultural operations.

Through a scholarship opportunity, Farm Ops reimbursed veterans for their registration fees and travel expenses, ensuring greater accessibility to this valuable learning experience. By supporting veteran farmers in expanding their skill sets, Farm Ops continues to foster opportunities for agricultural growth and success.
