NYS’s first on-the-job training program for military veterans to become farmers.
Since October 2016 the New York Division of Veteran’s Affairs has approved three farms to provide on-the-job training for military veterans. Veterans can use some of their GI Bill Benefits in the form of a housing allowance, while they earn a training wage from some of state’s most experienced farmers. Click here to read more about the program from the Cornell Chronicle or check out the coverage in Morning Ag Clips here.
Veterans (and those transitioning from active duty) who are interested in a career in agriculture are encouraged to contact our office or reach out to the following farms to learn more about their farm’s training curriculum and employment opportunities:
–Kreher’s Poultry Farm in Clarence, New York
–Mapleview Dairy in Madrid, New York
–Reeves Family Farm in Baldwinsville, New York
If you are interested in developing an on-the-job training program for military veterans on your farm please review the documents below and then contact Small Farm Veteran Program Associate Dean Koyanagi at firstname.lastname@example.org or 607-255-9911.
