{"id":41480,"date":"2024-10-16T13:16:23","date_gmt":"2024-10-16T17:16:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/smallfarms.cornell.edu\/?p=41480"},"modified":"2024-10-16T13:29:28","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T17:29:28","slug":"long-island-cultivos-de-cobertura","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/smallfarms.cornell.edu\/es\/2024\/10\/long-island-cultivos-de-cobertura\/","title":{"rendered":"En Long Island la comunidad agr\u00edcola latina se capacita en cultivos de cobertura"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miembros de la comunidad agr\u00edcola latina de Long Island se dieron cita en el Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n y Extensi\u00f3n de Horticultura, en Riverhead, NY el pasado 20 de agosto del 2024 para una tarde de aprendizaje y construcci\u00f3n de comunidad.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El tema principal del evento, realizado en espa\u00f1ol, fue acerca de la importancia de la salud del suelo para la producci\u00f3n agr\u00edcola, los beneficios de los cultivos de cobertura en la producci\u00f3n agr\u00edcola y conocer diferentes cultivos de cobertura de verano que se pueden adaptar a las condiciones de esta zona.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El objetivo principal del d\u00eda de campo, adem\u00e1s de aprender sobre cultivos de cobertura, fue exponer a la comunidad latina de Long Island a las oportunidades de aprendizaje e investigaci\u00f3n, y demostrarles que tambi\u00e9n son parte de las instituciones que apoyan el desarrollo agr\u00edcola.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fue muy gratificante ver a las familias, que son trabajadoras agr\u00edcolas de Long Island, y tambi\u00e9n a emprendedores que buscan iniciarse en la agricultura. Gener\u00f3 alegr\u00eda observar a los ni\u00f1os disfrutando de la ciencia y la investigaci\u00f3n, entendiendo el por qu\u00e9 de algunas de las pr\u00e1cticas que realizaban. Nunca antes estas familias hab\u00edan tenido acceso a oportunidades de capacitaci\u00f3n pr\u00e1cticas, en su propio idioma y con informaci\u00f3n de alto nivel cient\u00edfico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los cultivos de cobertura son cultivos que se siembran en rotaci\u00f3n o al mismo tiempo que algunas hortalizas o vegetales. Los beneficios de la implementaci\u00f3n de los cultivos de cobertura en la producci\u00f3n agr\u00edcola, incluyen la mejora en la estructura y protecci\u00f3n del suelo durante eventos de lluvia y escorrent\u00eda, mejoran la infiltraci\u00f3n de agua en el suelo, ayudan a controlar malezas, y algunas pestes y enfermedades, aumentan la disponibilidad de nutrientes al suelo, entre muchos otros.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La jornada fue posible gracias al esfuerzo colaborativo del personal t\u00e9cnico del proyecto Futuro en Ag de Cornell Small Farms Program y la Extensi\u00f3n Cooperativa de Cornell (CCE) del condado de Suffolk, y el apoyo del Programa de Salud de Suelo del Estado de Nueva York.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La poblaci\u00f3n latina en Long Island es significativa. Seg\u00fan el censo del 2020, m\u00e1s del 20 por ciento de Long Island se identifica como hispana. Esto representa casi 600 mil personas. Por esto la educaci\u00f3n e investigaci\u00f3n en espa\u00f1ol sigue creciendo en importancia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Durante el evento, m\u00e1s de 20 participantes pudieron escuchar informaci\u00f3n relevante, para esta \u00e1rea,\u00a0 en el uso de cultivos de cobertura en verano y salud del suelo, observar simulaciones de lluvia y los resultados con diferentes especies, as\u00ed como observar de primera mano el establecimiento de diferentes cultivos de cobertura.
