SUMMARY:Eastern NY Soil Health & Climate Resiliency Field Day
DESCRIPTION:Farmers and growers will have a unique opportunity to participate in Soil Health Field Tours\, visiting farms in northern Rensselaer and southern Washington Counties. The tours will provide valuable insights into soil health practices that local farmers have implemented in the region. Cornell researchers\, who are at the forefront of soil health and crop production\, and Cornell Cooperative Extension educators will be present on the site to answer any questions and discuss anything related to soil health and crop production. A BBQ dinner will be held after the tour\, allowing guests and hosts to socialize.

SUMMARY:Soil Health & Climate Resiliency Field Day
DESCRIPTION:If you are looking to improve the quality of your soils\, this event is for you. Building soil health can help farms adapt to extreme weather\, suppress weeds\, and improve overall crop performance. \nGuest presenter will be Dr. Joseph Amsili\, Senior Extension Associate and Program Director for the New York State Soil Health Team. Also speaking will be Crystal Stewart\, an Extension Vegetable Specialist for Eastern NY Commercial Horticulture Program. Topics will include reducing tillage\, soil compaction\, cover cropping\, and tarping techniques for mixed vegetable operations. \nThere will also be a soil health demonstration and a group panel to discuss other strategies for improving agricultural soils. SUMMARY:NY Soil Health Field Day: Biochar\, Compost and Building Climate Resiliency
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by CCE Suffolk Agricultural Stewardship Program and CCE Suffolk Vegetable/Potato Program in coordination with Cornell Small Farms and NY Soil Health This soil health field day will include discussions and demonstrations of research on various soil amendments including biochar and compost in nursery\, vegetable\, and vineyard production systems. We will discuss how these soil amendments can improve soil properties and build climate resiliency on farms. Summer cover crops will also be discussed. \n\nA dialogue group will be hosted the following day\, attendees at the field day are invited to participate in a dialogue group from 6:15 pm -7:30 pm at LIHREC following the Soil Health Field Day. We will be providing stipends of $40 per participant\, and responses will remain confidential. Refreshments served! \nThe Rich Earth Institute\, based in Brattleboro\, Vermont\, in partnership with Cornell University and Cornell Cooperative Extension\, are interested in better understanding the perspectives of a range of farmers\, agricultural advisors and other land managers about the use of novel soil amendments – including human urine\, biochar made from biosolids\, and biochar made from other biomass such as wood pellets. \nPlease contact Rich Earth Social Research Director\, Tatiana Schreiber at tatiana@richearthinstitute.org (802) 387-2781 or Cornell PI Deborah Aller\, at da352@cornell.edu
