SUMMARY:Taking a Deeper Dive into Nutritious Diets for Pigs
DESCRIPTION:When it comes to a healthy diet\, the stereotype that pigs only eat slop or scraps could not be more wrong. A pig’s diet will influence its meat’s flavor. Overweight pigs are more likely to become lame and lazy\, while well-fed pigs will have strong joints\, lean muscles and energy. Protein and nutrient requirements shift as a pig is weaned from its mother and as it grows. Diet changes may also be necessary based on the intended purpose for the animal\, such as if it were being raised for its reproductive qualities\, being raised for meat\, or even being raised as a pet. Join Adam and Ashley McFarland of Top Notch Meats\, who raise pigs for all three purposes and share their perspectives on providing a nutritious diet for pigs to ensure a healthy and happy life for their animals.
