SUMMARY:Harvest & Post-Harvest 101: Safe Handling and Produce Care
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hands-on introductory workshop focused on safe harvesting\, produce handling\, washing\, storage\, and post-harvest care for small-scale and organic farming systems. Participants will learn practical techniques to maintain produce quality\, reduce food waste\, and improve food safety through demonstrations and interactive learning stations. \nTopics include harvest timing\, washing methods\, storage basics\, cooling\, moisture management\, food safety practices\, and crop-specific handling techniques. This beginner-friendly workshop is open to beginning farmers\, gardeners\, incubator farmers\, and community members interested in developing practical harvest and post-harvest skills. No prior experience is necessary.

SUMMARY:Syntropic Agroforestry Introduction Webinar
DESCRIPTION:In this presentation we will cover the essential features of syntropic agroforestry. What does syntropy mean\, and how can we achieve it? We will discuss what is meant by the macro-organism\, how ecological succession is used as a guiding principle\, how forest stratification is treated\, and the importance of pruning to drive the system. We will also look at examples of farms and how syntropic agroforestry has changed the land as well as ecological and economic productivity. We will only touch on design and management in an introductory way\, but these will be expanded on in the second part of this series. \nErik Schellenberg is the natural resource educator and commercial horticulture educator with CCE Orange County. He is also a student of Ernst Götsch\, the creator of syntropic agroforestry and works to bring this way of approaching agriculture to North America. \nFee\nThis event is free\, however\, donations help us keep future programming costs low for our community. Thank you for your continued support!
