Restoration Agriculture Lecture – Mark Shepard on profitable ecological farming
October 19th, 2015
9 Training Center Ln, New Hampton, NY 10958
Mark Shepard has transformed a 106 acre degraded Wisconsin corn field into a diverse silvopasture system that mimics the ecological functions of a savannah without sacrificing productivity and profitability. In this lecture, you will learn about important ways to improve modern farming systems that combine current technology with informed ecological thinking. Using a wide variety of perennial and annual crops, animals, and innovative farming and business techniques, Mark has shown that the transition to organic is just the tip of the iceberg as far as soil health and ecological integrity is concerned. His innovative way of farming will inspire you to re-think how we should be producing our most important food crops.
