Workshop on Grantmanship for Non-Professionals

Grantmanship for Non-Professionals will be the topic of the workshop sponsored by the Master Gardeners of Otsego County on August 22, 2016 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Education Center, 123 Lake St., Cooperstown, NY. Master Gardeners have recruited the expertise of Stacey Grady and Barbara Hein of Springbrook for the workshop. This workshop is geared to representatives of not-for-profit organizations who are interested in learning to identify and prepare grant applications that get funded.
Registration fee is $10, which includes materials and refreshments. Space is limited for the workshop and advanced registration is required. Please call 607-547-2536 ext. 0 (Wednesday through Friday) or email otsego@cornell.edu for more information and to register.
Participants will learn about foundation and government grant opportunities, including those that are most appropriate for their needs, and how to build a relationship with a potential funder. They will also learn the details of assembling a proposal such as information on their organization, measurable goals, a realistic budget and a plan for evaluation. Technical issues such as ensuring the application is received will be discussed. The final topic will be the importance of reporting on the good work their organization has accomplished with the funder’s help.
Stacey Grady has more than ten years of experience in the field of fundraising. Currently, she is a member of the leadership team at Springbrook. Stacey oversees all aspects of fundraising including major and annual giving, special events, foundation and government relations, and legacy giving. Stacey holds her Certificate in Fundraising Executive credential and is a member of the board of directors for the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce. She has presented her work at numerous conferences across the country.
Barbara Hein has been the Development Writer for Springbrook since 2013. A well-rounded grants professional, she is experienced in planning and writing successful grant proposals to foundation, corporate, and government sponsors, as well as post-award administration and reporting. Her prior experience includes work for SUNY Broome and SUNY Delhi, as well as volunteer involvements with the League of Women Voters, Catskill Choral Society, Habitat for Humanity, and Literacy Volunteers.
The workshop is being presented in cooperation with Springbrook, one of New York State’s largest and most successful nonprofits supporting people with developmental disabilities.
